Athlete Accounts

How athletes and parents can create their own accounts, link to a coach, and access AI training suggestions.

3 min readUpdated Apr 18, 2026

Athletes and parents can create their own Planner.coach accounts. Independent athlete accounts give players a personal dashboard, access to the AI Training Assistant, and the ability to link to their coach for richer, program-aware suggestions.

Who is this for?

During sign-up, athletes choose a persona:

  • "I'm training myself" -- Solo athletes who want AI-powered practice ideas and progress tracking.
  • "I'm a parent/guardian" -- Parents managing training for one or more children.

Both paths lead to the same athlete workspace. The only difference is how form labels appear during setup (e.g. "Your name" vs. "Athlete name").

Athletes who choose "I'm training a group" are redirected to the coach onboarding flow instead, since group coaching uses the full session planning tools.

My Athletes

The My Athletes page is the central hub for athletes and parents. It's accessible from the sidebar and adapts based on your account type.

Solo athletes and parents see two sections:

  • My Profiles -- Create and manage athlete profiles with name, date of birth, and sport. Edit or delete profiles at any time.
  • Linked Coaches -- View coaches you're connected to, along with their sport and any shared data. You can unlink from a coach if you no longer want to share data.

Coach accounts also have access to the My Athletes page, where they can see athletes who have linked to them via invite links. This gives coaches a read-only view of their linked athletes' profiles from the athlete's perspective.

What athletes can do

From the athlete dashboard, players and parents have access to:

  • AI Training Assistant -- Ask for at-home drills, warm-up routines, or position-specific exercises. The AI tailors suggestions based on the athlete's sport, age, and linked coach data.
  • Athlete profiles -- View and manage personal details like name, date of birth, and sport.
  • Coach linking -- Connect to a coach for data-sharing and richer AI context.
  • Progress tracking -- View metrics, attendance history, and training programs assigned by linked coaches (Pro plan).

Linking to a coach

Linking connects the athlete's account with a coach's workspace so the AI assistant can draw on the coach's training programs and session history when making suggestions.

How it works

  1. The coach opens the athlete's profile in their coaching workspace and clicks Share Invite Link.
  2. The coach sends the link to the athlete (or parent) via text, email, or any messaging app.
  3. The athlete opens the link while logged in -- the connection is made automatically.

Once linked, the athlete's My Athletes page shows the coach under Linked Coaches with a green badge. Both the athlete and coach can manage or revoke the link at any time.

Unlinking from a coach

To disconnect from a coach, go to My Athletes, find the coach in your linked coaches list, and click the unlink button. A confirmation dialog will appear. Once confirmed, the connection is removed and the coach will no longer see your data. You can re-link at any time if the coach sends a new invite.

StatusMeaning
PendingInvitation sent, awaiting the athlete to open the link
ApprovedLink is active -- data is shared
RejectedThe athlete declined the link
RevokedEither party disconnected

Benefits of linking

  • Smarter AI suggestions -- The Training Assistant can reference the coach's programs, upcoming sessions, and progression plans.
  • Coach visibility -- Coaches can see athlete progress data from the linked profile.
  • Two-way value -- Coaches get engagement data; athletes get personalized training.

Inviting your coach

If your coach isn't on Planner.coach yet, tap Copy Invite Link on the dashboard to share a sign-up link. Once they create an account and add you as an athlete, you can link from your side.
